Reality TV star Michael Ballard even came back to his hometown of Trimble to create a moonshine distillery, store and event center. The residents of Dyer County have a vision and are taking strides to restore historic sites, grow their annual festivals and develop even more unique recreational opportunities.
DOWNTOWN
A group of volunteers saw the potential in Downtown Dyersburg and put into place a revitalization program developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Main Street Dyersburg is enhancing the entire community, working from Main Street Square outward into the surrounding area. Visit one-of-a-kind businesses like Pennington’s Seed and Supply or the popular Main Street Farmers Market. Entrepreneurs and small business owners can set up shop at The Mill Workspace.
OUTDOOR RECREATION
Outdoor adventure is unmatched in Dyer County. Multiple wildlife management areas, including Reelfoot Lake State Park, provide fishermen, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts with some of the best playgrounds in the state. Golfers can enjoy the many 9-hole and 18-hole golf courses, including Dyersburg Municipal Golf Course, called one of the best municipal courses in the United States by Golf Digest.
HISTORY AND HERITAGE
With many buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Dyer County has a rich history that can be traced to the early 1800s. Dyer County residents have restored many homes in the Troy Avenue Historic District as well as many of the buildings in Downtown Dyersburg. The historic Newbern Depot has been restored and still operates today with daily Amtrak stops and a museum. Other historic sites include the Veterans Museum on the Dyersburg Army Base, popular Civil War Sites and the Dyer County Courthouse.
